Andrew has been very active this week! He has officially found his thumb, and considers it a good option when all his fingers don't quite fit in his mouth.
He is beginning to hold things in his tiny hands, like his stuffed animals, the cow and the chick. This past Sunday, Jeff and I were thrilled to sit next to one another through 90% of our first meeting (Sacrament Meeting) at church, with little Andrew perched on our laps. He was entertained with a pair of plastic keys and a little rattle for quite some time; the remainder of the time, he took to discovering his surroundings. Turning his head this way and that way, he wanted to look at everything. Baby Andrew has become fascinated with objects placed in front of him, and wants to touch them, like the hymn book and the scriptures at church.
Jeff and I have found it fun to watch him tune into everything we are doing - such as eating. His eyes now follow our hands as we reach for something on our plates and then put it in our mouths. His eyes seem to say, "what is that?"
Another milestone . . . yesterday, Andrew managed to roll from his stomach to his back and then his back to his stomach again! He has been going from his stomach to his back for 2 weeks, but now that he can roll completely around he seems pretty proud of himself - at least thats what the huge smile on his face leads us to believe. He is also sitting up (with a tiny bit of help, of course) more and more!
So, baby Andrew is learning by engaging all his senses, but most notably that of taste and touch. We went for a long walk tonight and saw four toads and one garden snake. Thinking he'd be interested, I pointed them out to Andrew . . . but luckily it will be another year before he becomes really interested in living things, I believe. It's nice to know I still have some time with him as a baby before he will be the one pointing things out. . .
